  1. When creating the flight in the Ad Manager, in the Advance Targeting section, be sure to select the interstitial targeting parameter. This flags the flight as an interstitial ad, and manages the frequency of the ad. If you fail to set this target, the interstitial could appear on every impression request.
  2. Using the templates below for either static images or rich media (coming soon), wrap the creatives and traffic the html tag in the Ad Manager.
  3. Submit the flight and enjoy the interstitial.

Image Only template:

For image only Interstitial ads, use the code snippet below as a template.  Rich media template to follow. The URL "http://www.vervewireless.com/templates/verve-iphone/images/mockads/super8.png" in the template should be replaced with the URL of the image to be displayed. Video Units

Banner/Landing Page

All video should be MPEG-4.

In-banner video should be size appropriate (300x250 for interstitials, 320x50 (for example) for display banners).

Maximum play-time for in-banner video should be limited to 30 seconds.

Smartphones (e.g. iPhone & Android)

  • The target size for video files should be around 1MB per 30 seconds of video
  • Generated video files must be streaming compatible. Some encoders do this by default, others (such as ffmpeg - http://www.ffmpeg.org/) require you to post-process the files using qt-faststart.

Video specification

  • Codec: h.264
  • Width: 320px or 360px
  • Height: depends on each video's aspect ratio
  • Maximum file size: 10MB
  • Frame rate: 15, 25 or 30 fps (use the lowest value that looks acceptable)
  • Bit rate: 200-250kbps (use the lowest value that looks acceptable)

Audio Specification

MP3, mono, 32 or 64kbps

Tablets (e.g. iPad)

  • Width/height: up to 640x480. Note that some versions of iPad will not play videos larger than this from the web!
  • Maximum file size: 10MB
  • Frame rate: 15, 25 or 30 fps (use the lowest value that looks acceptable)
  • Bit rate: up to 768kbps. Around 350-500 kbps often looks good enough

Pre-Roll

Pre-roll video ads play just prior to a publisher's video clip.  Note that most video clips we host are relatively short in duration, averaging between 1 and 3 minutes long.  The maximum duration of video clips we host is 10 minutes.  Therefore, a video ad's length should be a short, mobile-specific creative.  E.g., a 30-second ad on the "AP News Minute" is way too long and results in a very poor user experience. To launch a video, a user must tap the video to play, upon which the device launches the handsets native video player. The pre-roll will begin prior to the video content.

Current support:

  • Mobile Web: Yes
  • iPhone Apps: Yes
  • Android Apps: Yes
  • iPad Apps: Yes

Video ad creatives should adhere to the following:

  • Duration: 15 to 30 seconds
  • File Formats:  .mov (preferred), .wmv
  • Size: 640 x 480 or higher (4:3 aspect ratio)
  • Size: 640 x 360 or higher (16:9 aspect ratio)
  • Frame Rates:  23.97(minimum) to 30 (maximum)
  • Bit rate:  1200 kbps or better
  • Video Compression:  Any native QuickTime, AVID or Media 100 including MPEG-2, H.264, Animation
  • Audio Codec: AAC, 128 kbps, 44kHz, Stereo
  • Recommended file size: 100MB or less.

General Creative Guidelines

  • Ads may not employ animations of any element of the design.
  • Ads may not have transparent backgrounds and may never blend into screen content.
  • Animation does not have a loop maximum, but total animation time for all loops combined cannot exceed 15 seconds.
  • Television and print advertising standards prohibit advertisers from issuing ads or infomercials in such a manner that the viewer or reader believes the content is news, rather than advertising. Verve's standards also follow this policy.
  • Messaging and offers (price, terms, etc) must be clear to the consumer on its face. Misleading ads/offers will be rejected. This includes the use of hidden and/or punitive negative option pricing techniques.

While the breadth of capability that each of these vendors offer is extremely broad, Verve is committed to partnering closely with advertisers and rich media providers to enable emerging capabilities. We have not certified each and every capability of each and every vendor - this is an evolving space and many of the capabilities they offer today were not available at the time we originally certified them (or even last week).

We do not install in-app SDKs on behalf of third parties to enable capabilities.

  • Animated GIFs are acceptable, but not recommended. Many publishers have disallowed them and animations limit the opportunity to reach a broad range of consumers.
  • We do not support Flash.
  • Expandable ad formats must expand to fill the entire screen.
  • Initial file size maximum: 40kb
  • Final file size maximum: 100kb
  • Max looping and animation length: 15 seconds
  • Sound must be click to play
  • Max sound length: 15 seconds
  • Close button is mandatory and must be at least 16x16
  • No labels
