Insights 

This section will walk you through how to create new client Plans, run Reports from within your Plans, and how to effectively use each Report to produce the most compelling insights for your clients.

Creating a New Plan

To start a new Plan, click  in the upper right hand corner. You will be taken to the Create a Plan screen. 

You will enter your information into three different boxes:

Once you have entered in your client's information, click Save.

Info

All Insights start with a Plan. A Plan is a collection of customized Reports to provide relevant information to raise a client’s awareness with regards to their visitors’ behaviors.

Reports

Below is a description of each type of report and how to generate the information relevant to the client’s needs.

  • When viewing a Plan, click Add New Report.
    • A drop down menu will appear and from here you will select one of three different types of reports - Location, Proximity, or Destination.

Location Report

Location Reports show you where visitors to a client's locations are observed. 

Note

Any time you make a change to the Metro, Audiences, or Activity Levels selections, click Refresh to apply changes to your report.

Report Filters

Metro

Provides locations and hexes within a designated Metro area.

This message will appear if there are no locations within the selected Metro

Audience

Filters the rendered hexes to only those with activity from specific Verve audiences.  Select as few or as many as needed.

Activity Levels

Defaults to All activity levels.  Click to make the drop down menu appear.  You can narrow the levels to limit the displayed hexes to only those with the highest levels of customer activity.

Geohex Size (Optional)

This defaults to Small.  If you wish to target a larger area, click on the cog to the left of Refresh to select either Small, Medium, or Large.  Click Refresh to apply.  When refreshed, the larger geohex areas will appear. 

Small = 1 mile radius
Medium = 6 mile radius
Large = 9 mile radius

Potential Reach

Above the key, you will see the Potential Reach box.  This will display an estimated number of devices based on your report filters and length of your campaign.

 

Select All vs Deselect All

Select All vs Deselect All options will indicate "All audiences" within their respective boxes. Select All means the results are filtered to match the selected audiences. Deselect All means activity from devices that are not associated with particular audience are also included.

Proximity Report

Proximity Reports show you the proximity of specified competitors in relation to your client’s location(s). 

Report Filters

Metro

Provides locations within a designated Metro area.

Proximity Headers

Below the Metro selection, there is a header row for the remaining filters - Group Name, Group Members, Color, Hidden, Geofence, Proximity.

    • Group Name - Column showing all group names.  Advertiser and Competitors cannot be modified.
    • Group Members - List of what groups have been selected.  The first is the Advertiser (cannot be modified). All other lines show the number of selections each filter has.
    • Color - Column showing the colors assigned to each filter.  Eleven (11) colors available. Color selected is what will be showed on the report and key.
    • Hidden - Use this check box to hide a group. Useful when creating a list of competitors to geo-conquest, and you do not want your advertiser locations included.
    • Geofence - Allows you to control the size of the geofence around each location.  Default is 1 mile.  Dropdown range from .5 - 17.5 miles
    • Proximity - Filters the group based on proximity of locations to advertiser locations.  Default value is Any.   Dropdown range from 1 - 25 miles in 1 mile increments.  Advertiser does not have a dropdown for this.
Advertiser

Default line for advertiser.  Only three options available - Color, Hidden, and Geofence.

Competitor

Provides specific competitor locations in relation to your customer's locations.

Groups

By default, an Advertiser and Competitor group are added to your report. The Competitor group contains all places with the same primary category as your advertiser. You can also add additional places to show on the Proximity report.  Click , choose a name for the new group, then select what you would like to show within the group.  Multiple groups can be added as needed.

Potential Reach

Above the key, you will see the Potential Reach box.  This will display an estimated number of devices based on your report filters and length of your campaign.

 

Don't Forget

Every time you make a change to your filters, you must click the Refresh button so your changes will appear.

Destination Report

Destination Reports show you other places your customers go to most.

Report Filters

Metro

Provides results to specific location(s) within a designated Metro area.  When you click the dropdown, you will see a Search box at the top where you can search for a specific Metro, Select All, Deselect All, and a list of Metros where you can select as many as needed.

Audience

Provides results of observed visits of specific Verve audiences. When you click the dropdown, you will see a Search box at the top where you can search for a specific Audience segment, Select All, Deselect All, and a list of Audiences where you can select as many as needed.

Primary Category

Filter the results to places of a specific category.  This can be used, for example, to view what competitors your customers frequent most often.

Editing Destination Reports

Changing Dimension

Use the cog icon in the upper right corner of the report screen to change the dimension of the report from Place (the default) to Primary Category or Sub Category. 

Exclusions

These exclusions are specific to this individual report. You can also set up default exclusions, which take effect across all your plans.

When viewing the destination report, occasionally places will be returned that are not relevant to your campaign's advertising goals. These places can be hidden from the report by clicking the  button on the report and then defining which Places, Categories, or Sub Categories you want eliminated from view.  

 

Ad Manager

This section will show you how to navigate through the Verve Mobile Marketing Platform Ad Manager.

Orders

When you log into the Ad Manager, you will land on the Orders screen.  From here you can see different orders.

New Order Creation

Click on the Create button.  You will now be on a New Order screen.

 

  1. Name - The first field is where you name your order. Give it an unique and descriptive name indicating who/what the order is.

  2. Advertiser - Click on the drop down and select the appropriate advertiser. If your advertiser is not listed, you can add them. For instructions on how to do this, please see the ADM User Guide - Advertiser section.
  3. Advertiser IO - Optional. Enter your internal Advertiser Insertion Order number.
  4. Start/End Dates - When your order is set to start/end (NOTE: Start Date can't be in the past). You can click the calendar icon or type in the dates.
  5. Custom Fields - These two fields, can be populated with client specific information like billing identifiers, client IDs, etc.

If everything looks correct, click Save.

You should now be on the New Order Summary screen.  This view will display the Name, Advertiser, and Flights associated with the order.  Its a good idea to review your order to ensure accuracy before moving forward.

Existing Order Summary

Location for key metrics for each Flight in the Order.

  1. #:  Flight ID

  2. Name:  Flight name

  3. Dates:  Start and End dates

  4. Ads:  Number of ads in the Flight

  5. Rate:  The CPM rate

  6. Quantity:  Booked impressions

  7. Cost:  Total cost of the flight based on booked CPM and Impressions

  8. Progress:  Indicator to show if flight is on schedule or at risk for under-delivery.  Progress = (% of impression goal delivered) / (% of time elapsed).  The amount bar within the progress indicated the percentage duration the flight is live. 

    1. Percentage value: Positive figure (green) indicates ahead of schedule, 0% indicates on schedule, and a negative figure (red) indicates behind schedule.  
    2. The fill percentage on the bar indicates the percentage of time the flight has completed.
  9. Status:  Indicator for flight status in the system

    1. :  Flight is currently delivering imps
    2. :  Flight has a start date in the future.
    3. : Flight is ready to submit
    4. :  Flight with a start date in the past that was never submitted to deliver
    5. : Flight has completed/live flight with an end date in the past.
  10. Actions:

Search - Orders

Users may search for Orders by using the search functionality.  Enter the order name, keyword or order ID.

1. Sort by Order Date

  1. Select the Order Date from the drop down menu
  2. All Orders that are within the selected Status criteria will be displayed

2. Search by Status

  1. Select a Status from the drop down menu
  2. All Orders that are within the selected Status criteria will be displayed

3. Search by Advertiser

  1. Select an Advertiser from the drop down menu
  2. All Orders with the Advertisers name matching the characters enter in the search field will display

4. Search by Search Box

  1. Enter a keyword into the Search Box. The Search box is not case sensitive.
  2. Search will return list of all orders with matching order name or advertiser name to characters entered in the search field.

History

The History tab shows Author, Action, and Changes to the Order.

Flights

When you log into the Ad Manager, you will land on the Orders screen.  For this module, we will be going over how to create a Flight for your existing Order.  Find your order and at the bottom you will see the Create Flight button.

Creating a New Flight

Click on the Create Flight button and the New Flight screen will appear.

  1. Name - The first field is where you name your flight.  Give it an unique and descriptive name indicating who/what the flight is.

  2. Description - Optional. Enter any text to help you identify the flight later
  3. Start/End Dates - When your flight is set to start/end.  You can click the calendar icon or type in the dates. NOTE: Flight start and end dates must be within your Order start and end dates
  4. Start/End Times - What specific time your want the flight to start/end. Ignore if you want the flight to run midnight to midnight.
  5. Custom Fields - Two fields (a name and a value), which can be populated with client-specific information like billing identifiers, client IDs, etc.
  6. CPM - Enter the price you are charging your client for the flight.
  7. Quantity - Enter the number of impressions you want to deliver.
    1. Ad Type - You may be configured for Ad Type. If you are select the Device, Format, Creative Source and Ad Type you will be using for your flight. 
  8. Platforms - Use the dropdown to select whether you want your ads to appear on mobile or tablet devices, and mobile-app or own mobile-web. NOTE: if running both mobile and tablet creative, they must be broken out into separate flights. Also, always be sure to select mobile-app. We suggest also selecting mobile-web, but it is optional. If you are configrued for Ad Type, you will only be selecting from App or Web

  9. Creative Types - Select the types of creatives you will be trafficking to this flight. (Mobile banner is most common). If you are configured for Ad Type, you will not see the Creative Types selection. 
  10. Targeting - 
    1. Click the Add Targeting button to begin adding targeting to the flight. Doing so will expose a dropdown where you can select one of the following tactics. Depending on which tactic you select, you will be asked to provide different information.
      1. Address - If you want to geo-fence a single location, you can enter the address directly, as opposed to using a segment. When you enter an address, you will also be able to define the radius of geo-fence you want around that address, and then preview the geo-fence by clicking the green map button to the right of the address field.
      2. Audience - Attach one or more audiences to the flight. You can choose to include (target) or exclude (do not target) from the standard Verve ActivateTM audiences, or any custom audiences that have been made available to your account. NOTE: selecting multiple audiences in the same box puts an OR statement between them, which is the recommended use case
      3. Carrier - Include (target) or exclude (do not target) specific cellular carriers.
      4. Content Category - Include (target) or exclude (do not target) specific category of publisher content.
      5. Geo Segment - Attach one or more geo segments to the flight using the dropdown. You can choose to include (target) or exclude (do not target) segments created in Ad Manager or custom-created by Verve.
      6. Metro - Include (target) or exclude (do not target) specific metros.
      7. Operating System - Include (target) or exclude (do not target) specific operating systems.
      8. State/Region - Include (target) or exclude (do not target) specific states or regions.
      9. Zip Code -  Include (target) or exclude (do not target) specific zip codes. NOTE: you can include up to 100 zip codes here. If you have more than 100 zip codes, you'll need to make a custom zip segment. 
    2. You can layer multiple targeting tactics together using the blue AND button next to each tactic. Any time an AND is used, the flight will target the intersection of the tactics selected.
    3. You can also click the green OR button to create a new group of tactics. Doing so will target the union of the groups of tactics defined. Example: (Audience = Male AND Age = 18-24) OR (Audience = Female AND Metro = Chicago)
    4. Tactics and groups can be removed by clicking the trash can or X icon, respectively.
  11. Dayparts - Use the checkbox grid to select the dayparts you want to target. Use the links on the edges of the grid to quickly select common combinations.

If everything looks correct, you can click Save.

You can also click the Forecast button at the bottom of the form to pull the number of total impressions and available impressions for the flight you have defined. If not enough inventory is available, consider loosening the restrictions on your flight.

Note: When initially creating flights, this forecast is based only on the flight information, and will change when creatives are added to the flight. It is best practice to re-pull a forecast after trafficking ads.

Bulk Flight Uploads

The Bulk Flight Uploads feature allows multiple flights to be uploaded at once with a Microsoft Excel file (*.xlsx).  The feature is useful when an order requires a large number of flights each with different parameters or creative.  For example, an order might require different impression quantities or dayparting at a flight level.

The Bulk Flight Uploads option is located on the Order Details screen, under the tab Bulk Flight Uploads.  To begin a bulk upload, click the Create Bulk Flight Template button.

 

The New Flight Template screen appears.

Tip

Bulk Flight Uploads allow creative in the Creative Library to be linked to flights. When building and filling out a template that includes the addition of creative, the creative must already be in the Creative Library for the template to be filled out correctly.

New Flight Template

The New Flight Template page allows you to define the columns and data that will populate the Bulk Flight Template spreadsheet. 

The form contains the same fields as the New Flight page.  See the Creating a New Flight section for descriptions of all flight fields.

At the bottom of the form, the Creative Column dropdown provides three options:

  1. Blank/null - Allows flights without linked creative
  2. id - Links creative by using the creative's ID, which can be found in the Creative Library
  3. code - Links creatives by using the creative's user-defined code, which is entered when creatives are uploaded or built in Creative Builder. Pro-Tip: For creative that has been uploaded in bulk this option can save significant time, as it does not require the retrieval of the the ID from the Creative Library.

Click Save. 

Download Template

The Bulk Flight Template details screen shows a summary of what has been selected.  Click the Download Template link to download the XLSX file.

Updating Bulk Flight Spreadsheet
  1. Open the downloaded XLSX file in Excel. 
    1. The column headers will be in Row 1. Targeting tactics and groups are identified by a numerical code, where the first digit represents the targeting group, and the second represents the tactic. So, for example 2.3 represents the third tactic in the second targeting group.
    2. The seed data - parameters selected when building the template - appears in row 2.

       

  2. Copy and paste the seed data to create as many flights/rows as needed. 

    WARNING: When copying rows in Excel by dragging, the numerical ID values will increase sequentially since Excel uses the Fill Series function by default. For example, the value "1" will be "2", "3", "4", etc. in each subsequent cell. When copying by dragging, make sure the Copy Cells function is selected so that IDs are not inadvertently adjusted by Excel.

  3. Adjust the information in each row as necessary. When data is represented by numerical IDs, use the following mapping chart to determine the correct ID. Note that segment, audience, and creative IDs are account specific, and can be found in the Velocity UI.

 Once all changes are made, save the file.

Uploading Bulk Flights

Toggle back to the Bulk Flight Template details screen.  Upload the saved template file by navigating to it on your computer or dragging and dropping it of by choosing a file to upload.

At first, uploads show the status 'Processing'.  Once the upload completes, the status will change to 'Finished'.  An email notification will be sent once the upload is complete.  Larger uploads require more time.

Once the upload is complete, the Notes column presents a summary of how many rows in the upload were successfully Read, Imported, and Updated. It also show how many rows Failed to import.

Error Handling

In cases where one or more rows did not import, follow these steps to troubleshoot and make corrections:

  1. Download the spreadsheet linked to the upload with failed rows.

  2.  Open the download and review the last column - entitled "errors" - for information on how to fix the error. Error messages only appear in rows that require updating. 

  3. Use this information to correct the issue(s) with the spreadsheet. 

  4. Save and re-upload the spreadsheet.

When downloading the results of an upload, a Flight ID column - column A - is also added to the sheet. For any rows where a flight has successfully been created, this will be populated with the Flight's ID. Any rows that do not yet have flights associated will have a blank cell. This allows the user to determine which rows should be new flights versus those flights which contain updates to existing flights.

Mobile Ads

  For this module, we will be going over how to create a Mobile Ad for your existing Flight.  Find your flight and at the bottom you will see the Create Mobile Ad button.

Creating a New Mobile Ad

  1. Click on the Create Mobile Ad button and the New Mobile Ad screen will appear.
  2. Select the appropriate creative from the drop down then click Save.  

Your creative not listed?

Click on the Add Creative link.  

Creatives

In the Library section, you will find the full repository of all uploaded creatives available for Flights.

Create new Creative

Creative Builder

Select the Creative Builder option to build your new creative

1. Creative Info
  • Select Advertiser from the drop down list

  • Enter the name of the Creative

  • Enter the ADM Code (if applicable)

  • Select what type of Creative this is - Banner, Expandable, or Interstitial. Select Ad Size

    • Depending on what option is selected will determine what options are available on the rest of the page
2. Banner Option
  • A - Banner Template - Choose template from the drop down 

  • C - Images - Click on the Choose File button to upload the image that is going to be used for the Creative. The URL's window will display the URL for the uploaded image.

  • D - Tag Details - Enter the Redirect URL where you banner will take customers (if running a non-expandable banner). Optionally, include third party impression and click tracking URLs, third party tracking pixels, and 3rd party substitutions.When entering multiple pixels, please hit enter and start new tracking pixel on a new line. Click here for information on Third Party Tracking. (Optional)

  • E - Banner Details - Fill in the banner details. The Background Image URL will be generated in the Images section. Use the copy button to get the URL once the image is uploaded.If a Segment is selected and you want to use the phone number and address associated with each location, check the "Use phone number from segment" and "Use address from segment" boxes.

  • Click Save

3. Expandable Option
  • A - Banner Template - Choose template from the drop down

  • B - Panel Template - Choose template from the drop down

  • F - Panel Details - Fill in the panel details. The Background Image URL will be generated in the Images section. Use the copy button to get the URL once the image is uploaded.

    • When paired with a Geo-Aware segment, the “Override with segment URL if present” checkbox allows for dynamically applying a location-specific landing page URL (as defined on the segment) on the "Visit Site" CTA. If the URL is missing in the segment, the Website URL field set in Creative Builder will act as the default landing page URL. Available for both Expandable and Interstitial. 
  • Click Save

4. Interstitial Option
  • B - Panel Template - Choose template from the drop down

  • F - Images - Click on the Choose File button to upload the image that is going to be used for the Creative. The Urls window will display the URL for the uploaded image.

  • D - Tag Details - Define how the expanded panel will open on-screen.   • Click Save

CTAs may run over two lines, with the text centered horizontally and vertically with the button. Below are guidelines on character limits (per line):

Bulk Upload

Another feature of the Creative Builder is the ability to upload creatives in bulk.

Download CSV

As you make a creative, you can click on the Bulk Upload button to create a CSV file.  This is what would be used to create a bulk upload file.

When you have filled in the information into the creative builder, you can then download a CSV file which can then be used to create a bulk upload.  It will appear in the downloads bar at the bottom of the screen and saved into the Downloads folder.

Create Bulk Upload

  1. Have your CSV file ready:  In order to create a bulk upload you need to have already created a bulk upload CSV file.  If you do not have one, click the Creative Builder link to generate one.
  2. Select Advertiser:  Select the appropriate advertiser from the dropdown menu
  3. Upload your file:  Click the Choose File button to locate the bulk upload CSV file
  4. Click Save
  5. You should see a message appear a the top of the screen that says " Success! You will receive an email once your upload has finished processing. View the status of your upload
  6. Clicking on the link will take you to the View Bulk Upload screen.

  7. HTML Base - Enter your HTML source code for serving your creative. You can paste and view your HTML and JavaScript code that make up your ad. (Required)
  8. 3rd Party Tracking Pixels - Paste your js code and this will be inserted automatically so long as the %%VADM_3RDP_IMP_PIXELS%% macro is present in the ‘HTML Base’ input Area. (Optional)
  9. Vendor Substitutions - Select one or more third party substitutions depending on which macro replacements are needed for your creative to serve and track properly. (Optional)
  10. Final Tag - Click this tab to enable a pre-check of the creative code, including any substitutions or 3rd party tracking pixels that have been added in the Tag Components tab. If there is a substitution selected or a 3rd party tracking pixel added in the HTML Base or 3rd Party Tracking Pixel input areas, the output will be displayed in the “Final Tag”. This tab is not editable and any revisions would need to be made on the previous tab, Tag Components.(Optional)

Video

Select the Video option to build your new creative

  1. Name - Give your creative a descriptive name (Required)
  2. Advertiser - Begin typing and select Advertiser from the resulting list (Required)
  3. Code - An optional unique code to identify creative (Optional)
  4. Kind - Select the method of entering the media file into the system. If you are uploading a media file (.mp4, .mov) the Kind is Upload. If you have a URL from a third-party adserver that resolves to VAST XML Kind will be Redirect. (Required)
  5. Length (Ad Size) - Select the length of the video being used (Required)
  6. Tag Type - Identify if the creative is VAST or VPAID - not available for Kind: Upload (Required)
  7. Dimensions - The aspect ratio of the video file (Required)
  8. Destination URL - Where the creative will resolve if clicked (Required)
  9. File - Upload the media file for the creative (Required)
  10. Tracking - Individual event trackers can be added to the creative - Verve trackers are automatically added (Optional)
  11. Extensions - An area to add third party extensions into the creative

When saved the system will transcode the media file, if needed, and create the video creative to be used in an instream/outstream context, and create a video asset to be used within Creative Builder. 

Given you have a video creative created, you can use it in Creative Builder by setting the Ad Type to “Expandable" then selecting the Scrollable Map Panel with Video template under the Expandable section. Then there are 3 fields specific to this video template. 

  1. Video - select your video creative (using its Name value) from the drop down
  2. Video Footer Image URL - Paste the URL of the image you'd like displayed 
  3. Video Footer Image Click URL - enter the click through URL here 

Edit Creatives

  1. Click on the Creative to be edited.
  2. Click the blue Edit button in the upper right corner.
  3. All editable fields will be white. Grayed out fields cannot be changed.

Third Party Tracking   

The third party impression tracking URL and third party click tracking URL fields allow you to monitor Verve delivery with a third party ad server. The following third party ad servers are currently supported:

  • DoubleClick Campaign Manager (DCM - formerly DFA)
  • Sizmek (formerly MediaMind)
  • Medialets
  • Atlas

NOTE

  • Usage of third party tracking does not impact Verve billing. Verve numbers continue to be used as the billing source
  • Each creative supports up to one impression tracking URL AND one click tracking URL, and up to to three tracking pixels

3rd Party Impression Tracker

The third party impression trackers will only fire under certain circumstances:

  • Banner with an expandable - The third party impression tracker will only fire when banner loads, not when the banner expands
  • Interstitial - The third party impression tracker will only fire when the interstitial loads, not when it expands
  • Banners without an expandable - The third party impression tracker will only fire when banner loads

Trackers must be a URL only, not full HTML or JavaScript tag.

Third Party Click Tracker

The Third Party Click Tracker only measures clicks that lead to a landing page. It does not track any other clicks. 

Embedded Click Tracking

  • URL if entered into a web browser will take you to the landing page

Not Embedded Click Tracking

  • If the URL is entered into a web browser and does not take you to the landing page, the 3rd party click tracker needs to be put in the third party URL field with an equal sign.

Forecasts

Forecasts can be pulled from multiple pages within Ad Manager, each intended to help you determine the feasibility of your campaign at different points of your workflow. 

Be aware the forecasting tools will estimate the max avails. To increase the chances of successful delivery, use no more than 70% of this max estimate.

Forecasts Page

The standalone Forecasts page is intended to be used during the pre-campaign or sales process to determine available inventory. This can be done beore knowing full details about orders, flights, and creatives. 

  1. Click Forecasts in the left navigation
  2. Fill out the form as you would a flight. The form contains the same fields as the New Flight page. See the Creating a New Flight section for descriptions of all flight fields.

Forecasts while creating/editing Flights

The create/edit flight page also has a forecasting button at the bottom of the page that you can use to determine avails on the fly while you adjust flight targeting. If you haven't trafficked your creatives yet, this forecast will be greater than what you'll see afterward (when creative type is known). It's a best practice to re-run forecast after trafficking your creatives to get accurate avals (see the Forecast Tab on Flights section below). If you are editing a flight and have already trafficked creatives, the forecast from this page will consider creative type. 

Forecast Tab on Flights

The flight details/view page has a forecasting tab that can be used to pull avails once creatives have been trafficked to the flight, or to re-pull a forecast as you approach the launch date of a campaign. As on the flight form, forecast results will typically be larger if you haven't associated a creative to your flight yet. 

 

Segments

A custom segment is a group of locations to be used in flight targeting or to power a geo aware creative. The most commonly used type is Geo Aware.

New Segment

  1. Navigate to the “Segments” section of Verve Velocity

  2. Click the blue Create button

  3. Name the new segment

  4. Select what kind of segment to create, then click Save

  5. After the segment is created, if the segment is “Lat/Long & Radius” or “Geo Aware,” copy and paste the required column headers into a new Excel spreadsheet.

  6. Use the instructions below for guidance on saving your list of locations. Then, upload your completed file via the ‘Choose File’ button in Verve Velocity.

Please be aware it takes about 48 hours of data collection once a segment has been created to get fully accurate avails when forecasting.

  • postal_code_name*: Required. Enter 5 digit zip code. This column should be formatted as “Zip Code” (to do this, select the column, right click, select "Format Cells...", click on "Special" from the category list, then “Zip Code”)  

  • postal_code_suffix: leave blank

  • phone_number: Optional. If used, phone numbers must be in xxx-xxx-xxxx format (no parentheses around the area code)

  • latitude: leave blank

  • longitude: leave blank

  • radius*: Required. Use whole numbers or decimals (e.g. “7”, “.25”, etc)

  • country_code*: Required. Must always be “US”

  • url: Optional. If using different URLs per location, enter URLs in http:// format.

 

TSV stands for tab separated values. In Excel, pick the .txt option that includes "tab delimited."

Checking the status of a new segment

There are two ways to see if a custom segment was uploaded successfully:

  • Email: an email will be sent to the email address you log in with to communicate if the file was uploaded successfully.  If there were any failed lines, they will appear in the email. NOTE: Line 1 will always fail as it contains the header placeholders.

  • Segments Page: within the page where you uploaded your file, the “Value” field will show the number of POIs successfully uploaded. If this number is less than expected, something likely went wrong during the upload process

Troubleshooting 

Below are the most common upload errors and how to resolve.

  • “Postal code can’t be blank” – make sure each address has a corresponding zip code. Also, make sure zip codes that should have a “0” at the beginning do (using Format Cells, then Zip Code option).

  • “String contains null byte” –  make sure none of the cells under required columns are blank.

  • “Latitude can’t be blank/Longitude can’t be blank” – means Google Maps couldn’t understand the address provided. To fix, find the POI in Google Maps then re-upload with the address exactly as Google Maps has it.

  • “Dubious area code” – means the zip code couldn’t be matched to the street address. To fix, make sure address_1 uses the POI’s street address and not an intersection or POI name.

Some other tips:

  • Make sure you always include the header/column labels in row 1

  • Be careful dragging down cells when duplicating data like radius or zip codes to avoid continually increasing the number (i.e. 5 miles turning into 6, 7, 8, 9, etc.)

  • Watch out for rural locations that have street intersections as the address or names like Highway 44.  Refer to Google Maps for actual format of the specific location.

  • Stores located in malls may have the name of the mall in the address, but that is actually not part of the real address in Google Maps.

  • Wait for Finished status or email with results before attempting another upload into the same segment. Processing time can take 1+ hours depending on the amount of POIs.

  1. Name - Fill in name for new advertiser
  2. Tag Line - Optional. Advertiser's tag line

  4. URL - Advertiser's web address
  5. Category - Select appropriate category from drop down menu
  6. Custom Fields - These fields can be populated with client specific information like billing identifiers, client IDs, etc.
  7. Active box - Check this box if the advertiser is currently active
  8. Notes - Optional. Space to include any additional information about advertiser

 

Default Custom Fields

There is some data to be tracked on campaigns like billing identifiers, client IDs, etc.  Rather than hard-coding in the system, these can be configured in the custom fields so they can be attached to orders, flights and advertisers.

New Custom Field

  1. Type - Select appropriate type from drop down menu (advertiser, order, flight)
  2. Name - Enter name of new custom field

Reporting Portal

This section will walk you through how to leverage the dashboards and query building tools within the Reports module to analyze campaigns and produce reports for your clients. 

Note: All Verve reporting data is aggregated for the previous day and made available in Velocity by 9am PST. 

Overview Dashboard

All elements of the dashboard are connected to each other. When you narrow or expand the information displayed in one part of the dashboard, those same changes will be applied across the board.

1. Filters

There are six different filters you can apply to the dashboard to show specific data - Advertiser Categories, Advertisers, Orders, Advertiser IO, Flights, and Creatives.  As you select filters, the rest of the filters will adjust to only offer choices that apply to the selection(s).

2. Date

Gives you the option to display data based on specific date ranges.  There are five (5) standard selections or you can enter a custom range.  The standard selections use the latest date for which data is available and go backwards from there.  The Custom Range is utilized when you need information outside of the standard ranges.

3. Graph 

The Graph allows you to view trend data and gives you the option to display a variety of metrics based on what you select from the Plots drop down menus.

Plots 

Here is where you select what you would like to compare from the drop downs in each box and the graph will populate your selected data.

    • Plot 1 Available metrics - Impressions, Clicks, CTA, CTR, eCPM, CTA Rate
    • Plot 2 Available metrics - Clicks, CTA, CTR, eCPM, Total Cost, CTA Rate

Mouse Over Statistics

You can see what the statistics were for a specific day by moving your mouse over the graph.  A vertical line will appear circling the two points on the graph.  Next to it a box will appear with detailed information on the two plots you are currently viewing.

4. Summary Box

This displays the daily average for 4 different metrics – Impressions, Clicks, CTA, and Total Cost.  These totals will change based on the selected date range.

5. Totals Bar

Below the graph is a bar of statistics – Impressions, Clicks, CTA, CTR, Total Cost, eCPM  These numbers reflect the exact number for the specified filters.

6. Table

In the Overview dashboard, the table shows a breakdown of totals by day or month.  

Day or Month 

This drop down defaults to By Day, which will show you data aggregated at the daily level.  You can also select to view data By Month which will roll up the data by month.

Columns 

Select what columns you would like to have shown in the table.  You can select from the following metrics - Date (always displayed), Impressions, Clicks, CTR, Total Cost, eCPM, CTA, and CTA Rate.  Select as many or as few columns as needed.  Each column can sorted individually by Ascending or Descending order. 

 You can export the data from this table in three different formats - CSV, JSON, and Excel.

 

NOTE

Every time you move to a different dashboard, all filters/parameters are reset.

Advertisers Dashboard

The Advertiser Dashboard provides metrics rolled up to the Advertiser dimension. The layout is similar to the Overview dashboard, with a couple key differences.

Filter

There are only two (2) filters available for this graph on this dashboard - Advertiser Categories and Advertisers.

Table

This Table displays data aggregated at the Advertiser dimension. The Advertiser Name column cannot be removed from the table.

Orders Dashboard

This dashboard is tailored for showing information centered around Orders.  There are two differences between this and the Overview dashboard.

When you need information that you can not get from a dashboard, build a custom query. Queries are the best option when you want to build multi-dimensional reports, recurring reports, or reports with over 1,000 rows of data. 

  1. Query Name - Give your query a descriptive name (Required)
  2. Query Description - Enter a description for this query (Optional)
  3. Report Type - Two options for this - Agency Daily or Agency Lifetime (Required)
    1. Agency Daily - This gives you the Date Range option (see below).
    2. Agency Lifetime - Removes Date Range option.
  4. Date Range - Two options for this - Dynamic or Fixed (Required)

Reports

When a query runs, it generates a report showing the results of a query.  By default, all reports will be marked as Unsaved.  All reports are deleted after one week if not saved.  Downloaded reports are saved as ZIP files.  The file is in CSV format, which is opened in Excel.

Tools

Remove Report 

This will delete the report that has been created.

Save Report  

Click Save.  A box will pop up giving you the option to give the saved report a specific name or you can click Save and the report will be named automatically. Once saved, you can Share the report by user or via public link.

Share Report  (Only appears after you Save the Report)

Click the button and a Share With box will appear.  The With box is where you either enter in who you wanted to share this with or you can click inside the box and a list of people will appear where you can then select who to share the report with.

Share Report by Public Link  (Only appears after you Save the Report)

Click the button and a Share With box will appear.  The To box is where you enter the email addresses you want to share the link with.  You can include a note along with the link that appear in the email.

Download Report 

 If you click Download, the report is saved as a ZIP file.  When you open the file, the report is in a CSV file, which can then be opened in Excel.

Messages

When you have a new report generated, there will be a message in the upper right corner of the screen.  Click on the bell and a message box will appear with a link to the new report.

        • Enter user's Email
        • Select user's role/roles
        • Select 'Send Instructions'
        • Click 'Save'
      • Edit Users

        • Click email of user you would like to edit
        • Edit information of user.
        • Click 'Save'
      • Disable Users

        • Click email of user you would like to disable
        • Check the 'Suspended' box
        • Click 'Save'
      • Re-Enable Users

        • Change the Status drop down to 'Suspended'
        • Click email of user you would like to Re-Enable
        • Un-Check the 'Suspended' box
        • Click 'Save'
